Dr. Barnakshi holds OPD consultations at Medinova Clinic, Guwahati from Monday to Saturday between 4:00 PM and 7:30 PM. Please bring any available dental X-rays (such as an OPG panoramic view), CBCT, CT, or MRI scans, recent blood work or biopsy reports, and a list of current prescriptions (especially for blood thinners, diabetes, or blood pressure). If you do not have prior imaging, Dr. Barnakshi will examine you clinically and prescribe only the specific diagnostic scans needed.

Minor surgical procedures (such as impacted wisdom teeth, frenectomies, and biopsy screenings) are performed under advanced, painless local anesthesia or gentle conscious sedation. Complex corrective jaw surgeries or facial fracture repairs are carried out under general anesthesia in a modern hospital operating theatre where you remain comfortably asleep. Afterward, mild soreness is smoothly managed with prescribed multimodal pain protocols and cold compresses.

While general dentists excel at routine oral healthcare, fillings, cleanings, and root canals, an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMFS) undergoes 3+ additional years of intensive hospital-based surgical residency specializing in the bones, joints, and soft tissues of the face and jaws. You should see an OMFS for deeply impacted wisdom teeth close to nerves, facial bone fractures, corrective jaw alignment (orthognathic surgery), chronic TMJ pain or jaw locking, mouth sores persisting over 14 days, and jaw cysts or tumours.

Recovery time depends on the nature of your procedure:

• Impacted Wisdom Teeth & Minor Surgery: 2 to 3 days of mild swelling; most patients resume desk work, school, or college within 48 to 72 hours on a soft diet.

• TMJ Arthroscopy & Joint Therapy: 3 to 5 days of light recovery; normal jaw movement and chewing return progressively with guided exercises.

• Corrective Jaw (Orthognathic) & Facial Trauma Surgery: 1 to 2 days of hospital observation, followed by 7 to 10 days of home rest. Complete bone healing takes approximately 6 weeks. Every patient receives a detailed recovery guide and direct doctor follow-up support.

Facial fractures and soft tissue trauma require urgent maxillofacial evaluation to protect airway function, restore dental occlusion, and preserve facial aesthetics. Follow these emergency steps:

3. Apply firm, gentle pressure with clean sterile gauze if there is oral bleeding. Avoid forcing the jaws together.

4. Proceed directly to our affiliated emergency hospital in Guwahati for urgent CT imaging, pain relief, and surgical stabilization.

Most inpatient maxillofacial surgical treatments—including facial bone fractures (mandible, maxilla, zygoma), jaw cysts and benign tumours, TMJ ankylosis, and functional reconstructive jaw surgeries—are eligible for health insurance (Mediclaim) coverage and cashless hospitalization at our partner tertiary hospitals in Guwahati. While purely elective cosmetic procedures may not be covered, medically necessary trauma, pathology, and corrective reconstructions qualify.
